Ruben is a senior at Flint Hills Christian High School in Manhattan, KS, and on Saturday I had the great opportunity to meet up with him and take his senior portraits. Ruben plays basketball out at FHCS and plans to attend Manhattan Christian College in the fall. Ruben, like most senior men I have worked with, aren’t always the most comfortable in front of the lens – but, about half way through the shoot, Ruben was laughing, relaxed and enjoying our photoshoot time!
We started at his house, hit up a surprise spot in Manhattan (can you identify the sweet brick and stone columns?), and ended our time together at FHCS. Enjoy!

Saturday, April 17th, 2010I have the sweetest job in the whole world. Here’s what I get to do on a semi-cloudy, perfectly breezy, 65 degree mid Thursday afternoon – I get to meet beautiful families, with amazing children, and super-ridiculously-awesome pictures, and capture some still shots of their family that will hopefully be passed down from generation to generation. No biggie…

This family is awesome. Tosha and Kimathi’s son, Isaiah, attends the local Christian school where I placed one of my family portrait sessions up for auction – and they WON! I found out about the Flint Hills Christian School‘s annual auction to raise money for their school for sports, activities for the kids and various other expenses, and I had to jump on board! So, a couple days ago, we met up at this beautiful fountain, that is behind the campus apartment buildings (who even knew this was there?) and started clicking away on one of my new favorite families! Tosha is an english professor at K-State and Kimathi is a Vet – so we naturally had to take our pictures on campus!

Okay, okay…done with the talking (for now). Just enjoy this beautiful family – and their firecracker of a son, Isaiah
Such naturals in front of the camera! :) Enjoy part one for now…part two is coming tomorrow!

Sunday, April 11th, 2010DIY – Baking
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010On a Tuesday night a couple weeks back – my phone started ringing with an “unknown number” in the caller id. My dear friend Lindsey‘s sister, Hailey introduced herself, and in her sweet southern-Texas accent asked me if I would be interested in helping with the baby shower, and if you know me, you know how I answered this- “OF COURSE!” I had never made a cake with Fondant before, and knew that this was my time to experiment! Now, it’s not perfect, and it’s debatably “pretty”, but I had fun and felt quite accomplished at the end of this 5 hour baking fest!
Now…enough of me…enjoy the pictures!

1. Mix 16 oz of marshmallows (the GOOD brand! it makes a difference), 2-5 tablespoons of water, 2 lbs powdered sugar (a whole C & H bag!), and 1/2 c. crisco, and set in the fridge for at least an hour. Take the dough out and let set for 5-10 minutes, and then “sugar” your counter with a thick layer of powdered sugar, cover your palms in crisco, and start kneading that dough! (This is the time to mix in your food coloring as well – you will want to use a gel food coloring because of the thickness of the dough.) Roll it into a large circle and use a pizza cutter to trim the edges after you lay it over the cake (I used a round cake, and doubled the layers).

2. Roll the dough out again and cut out shapes – circles, stripes, etc., and decorate!
for more details…visit this great Fondant Website! Cut it up and enjoy!

And, as always, have a back up plan (i.e. – banana nut and blueburry mini muffins!)
Go do something new today – don’t be scared!

Matthew, Tracy and Levi | Part Two
Saturday, April 3rd, 2010We took the first part of Levi’s one year portraits outside in a beautiful backyard in St.Joseph, Missouri! (Click here to see some portraits from the outside portion!) For the second half of our shoot, we did a quick wardrobe change and moved inside! Little Levi changed into this adorable green checkered overall outfit and began exploring indoors – he quickly moved his little hiney to the stairs, and, being the adventurous boy that he is, moved right up the stairs on all fours! Again, enjoy the adventure of the world through the eyes of a one year old!
a
Like part one, I want to know what you think – did I capture the world through the eyes of one year old? Can you see the sense of wonder, excitement, pure joy and adventure? Leave a comment at the bottom and let me know what you think!
